A Letter to Students from Our Founder
It’s hard to believe what the truth is these days. It would be harder to believe that some guy who went to the library for a few years stumbled upon something called the Natural Laws, and can prove that these natural laws represent truth.
I’ve come to believe that we all know what truth looks like. We are super intelligent creatures born to know the difference between right and wrong. That’s really all the Natural Law says, but I will not lecture you about virtue. You know enough about virtue. It’s everywhere you look. It gets boring after a while.
Every day we are told about the things we should be doing to make us happy, to make us good people, and to make the world a better place. The great problem is, there is a huge difference between knowing what virtue looks like, and being virtuous! There is a huge gap between knowing what the right thing to do is, and doing the right thing! The same is true with knowing how to be happy, or how to be a good citizen, a friend or leader. We all know the basics of how to do it, but it's a whole other thing to pull it off!
Doing the right thing can be super boring. It can be much more exciting and fun to do the wrong thing. It can help us sell more records, be more well liked, maybe even more popular.
Maybe our flaws do outweigh our goodness? Maybe the “big me” will always be more popular than the “big we”! Maybe that is why every generation before yours has failed to get along well in a large and diverse society?
What knowledge could you possibly be given, that would allow your generation to solve all the terrific problems that have never been fully solved?
The only answer to that question, that no matter what other people will tell you about people, whether we are good or bad, or whether we have what it takes to improve things or not, it will NEVER change one fact; it’s your choice!
Your ability to improve your world and to overcome obstacles is very real.
Life is hard. Bad things happen to good people. It’s hard enough work to make sense of what is happening within our own minds, let alone help a cause greater than our own.
However, in the past twenty years or so we have amassed an unbelievable understanding of the complexities of the human mind, its inner workings, and things about human nature that we never knew before! Just like the invention of contact lenses which corrected our vision, this revolutionary knowledge can help a future generation stay on the path, keep yourself well and improve your world.
The things we should be doing to improve our lives, have been established. We know the path. The rules of life aren’t going anywhere. This program is here to help you how we come off the path, and most importantly it provides you with the reason why you would want to do the incredibly hard work to stay on it.
Thank you for participating and good luck!
